This morning on my way to work, I noticed a sign at an auto repair place:
"Men who are busy rowing seldom have time to rock the boat."
I immediately thought about the Church. Instead of sitting back logically deducing the "best way" to row... Instead of watching other people row the "wrong way"... Instead of trying to find an easier, more efficient way to move the boat... Let's just obey God! Let's DO what he wants us to do. Let's give our lives away. Let's love one another with a sacrificial love. And as he sees fit he will steer the ship and point us in the direction we should go. Let's use the oars he has supplied us with and in due time he'll get us more powerfully designed ones--ones we wouldn't be able to handle right now. And PLEASE let's keep our eyes of Jesus instead of the waves.
Ephesians 4 talks about the body of Christ growing as each part does its work. As each person grabs an oar and rows, we will be busy about the Father's business and we won't have the time to get into our own business (our own philosophies, ideas, methods, or who know what else).... which would end in disaster.
There's probably some more helpful meditations about being busy rowing, but I'll leave it there for now.

Amen! If we spent half the time caring for those in need that we spend arguing about fruitless things in our church, and doctrinal differences, and who's right and who's wrong, we would quickly see the effectiveness of those twelve men 2,000 years ago.
Satan's job is way too easy today. He simply has to get us signed up for dozens of useless tasks... some good, some bad. And before we know it, our entire life is gone, and we've nothing to show for it! No investment in the Kingdom. No souls brought to life. Just a bag of dust and ash that will disappear.
Fear God and keep his commands!
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out thy mouth, thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then shall thou make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good succes.
I saw this sign last night on my way home from work. I've often read very insightful comments, quotes, and verses on that sign. What strikes me, though, is that the sign is a commercial sign, owned and operated by a company. On the same stretch of highway is a church sign which often contains legalistic and condemning statements. One sign encourages me to obey, the other often angers me and leaves me wanting to repent on behalf of a very blind "church".
May all we say, work, play or church, always bring glory to our Lord and open the eyes of those around us... then they too will see the Kingdom and worship God!
